According to Cary Fowler, Executive Director of the Global Crop Diversity Trust, Irelands contribution of seeds to the Svalbard vault is expected to arrive before April this year. Anyone know what crops, varieties? How much and from whom?

Luigi over at the Agricultural Biodiversity Weblog (http://agro.biodiver.se) tipped me about you inquiry. I am employed by the Nordic Genetic Resource Center (http://www.nordgen.org/index.php/en/content/view/full/2/) to coordinate the Svalbard seed shipments from the cold end. We expect two boxes from with seed samples for safety storage at Svalbard next week. One box with oat, wheat and barley deposited by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, National Crop Variety Testing Centre, Backweston Farm, Leixlip, Kildare and one box with different forages and potato seeds from Teagasc, Crop Research Centre, Oak Park, Carlow. The full datasets on these samples will be up at the dataportal www.nordgen.org/sgsv as soon as the boxes are placed on the shelf. It’s great to have Ireland on board!
